1/3 BY NNQ.
I've been wanting to try NNQ for ages, it's been recommended to me by so many people. But I also wanted to wait until the city wouldn't be too busy, forgetting that, oh, NNQ has another restaurant in the suburbs at Woodville and another one in Chinatown. Plus they have express outlets for take-away-only at Grange, Cheltenham, and Semaphore. So what did we do? Go during one of the busiest times of the year for Adelaide--the Fringe Festival. Not my smartest planning, as it was hot and parking was almost non-existant.
1/3 by NNQ is bang in the middle of Adelaide [Google Map Link] on the corner of King William St and North Terrace, next to the Bank of China, down a bit from Hindley Street and Rundle Mall and across the road from what used to be Jamie Oliver's Italian restaurant. It's pretty easy to find. And on a hot day, it has a lovely cool interior that isn't too brightly lit, has a mixture of chairs and tables along with quirky and comfortable circular booths with leather upholstery.
The menu is extensive. It's very hard to decide on something to order! NNQ is traditionally a Vietnamese restaurant, but they also have cuisine from other nations as well. I dithered for a bit before finally settling on the seafood laksa, and B had the red bbq chicken and pork rice bowl. I also had a glass of homemade lemonade and oh lordy. Another thing that I could compose poetry to if only I wrote poetry. The lemonade was incredible.
The portion sizes of our meals were very generous, and it was impossible to finish all of it, there was plenty of flavour and variety of seafood in my laksa and the noodles were cooked to perfection. It also came with a side plate of add-your-own pickled chilli and a slice of lemon, all of which I added, as I like chilli and lemon. B's plate was no less generous in its serve size and neither of us could finish everything off! The prices were extremely good, and the staff were all friendly, kind and helpful.
Definitely a place to return to, although maybe not in the middle of the Fringe Festival, and maybe we should try the NNQ at Woodville too!

As this was February's outing and, well, hot, weatherwise, we stuck to the few op shops in the city. Once upon a time, there had been a LOT of op shops in the city square mile (Oh, I remember those times well), and lots of choice. There's still some now, but not as many and not as much choice. One, which I thought was still in existence, was not and there was a sign on the door saying it was closed, which was sad to see.
The first one we went to was a Salvos, one of the older ones, I remember this one being here for at least 30 years (that'll age me!) and it always being one of the better ones as it's large and has a high turnover of stock. Prices aren't too steep at this one either, as it's on Whitmore Square and is next door to several homeless shelters. It does not have aircon however, so on a hot day like the one it was when we visited, it wasn't comfortable inside. But I did manage to snaffle quite a few things that filled me with glee. First being a bag I saw upon walking in... a Jimmy Choo bag! Yep, grabbed that, wasn't going to leave that behind! I also got a nifty footstool that has a hinged lid and several vintage books and a cute little horse shaped desk organiser, where the head of the horse is a clamp. Hey, it amused me. :) B got several items of clothing.

Next was Vinnie's on Waymouth and... well. The shop front made the thing look really big. But upon going in, it's like a long cupboard. Think reverse TARDIS. There really wasn't much to grab me there, though there were a lot of people browsing. It may have seemed more populated than it was given it's tiny size as a store, but I was in there all of two minutes before realising that there was nothing I wanted/needed. YMMV.
