I caught up with an old friend, J, here for a coffee (decaf for me, due to health issues) and regular for her. I also got some things to take home with me to eat later.
The first thing I noticed about the cafe is that it's very popular indeed. There was a queue for ordering, and a very busy staff considering that, but they were still polite and attentive, while dealing with the rush of people, even though it wasn't the lunch rush hour, so I was impressed. The tables inside were all full, but I managed to snag one when a couple finished their coffees, and there were tables outside that were also full.
My decaf coffee actually tasted like coffee which delighted me, as most decaf doesn't quite hit the mark. I almost thought they'd mis-heard my order, but when I didn't have any of the side effects that caffeine gives me these days, I was very impressed. Whoever they source their decaf coffee from makes a very good bean.
There are three locations for St. Peters Bakehouse and Coffee Shop, the original in St. Peters (Facebook page is out of date), and the other two in Ridgehaven and Thebarton, the former to the north and the latter to the west. The original cafe is in the center of the suburb of St. Peters [Google Map link], and has been here for a while, as I understand it.
Aside from the coffee, I ordered the Chicken Snitty, Pesto, Bacon and Cheese Toastie on a Turkish roll and a Salami, cream cheese, cucumber, lettuce, and sun-dried tomato on a crusty baguette to take away. Both were absolutely delicious, full of flavour (even though I pulled the tomato out of the baguette, that's just a me thing!) and very more-ish. The combination of flavours on the toastie are not ones that I would ever have thought to put together, but they worked so well, I'm tempted to do a similar one myself.

Overall, I highly recommend the St. Peters Bakehouse and Cafe; they have a vast array of pies, pasties, sausage rolls, baguettes, sandwiches, wraps and toasties for savoury food and an even larger choice for sweet food, everything from donuts, to cakes, to slices to tarts, including my absolute favourite, the Portuguese custard tart.
